How to install Android 4.4 KitKat on the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

If you want to get the latest version of Android on your ancient tablet, here is the tutorial on how to install CyanogenMod 11 / Android 4.4 KitKat on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0.

Warning

Installing a custom ROM can be risky, especially if you don’t follow the tutorial step-by-step. You could wind up with a useless brick if you're not careful. Backup all of your data before getting started, neither AndroidPIT nor I will take responsibility for any damages that might happen.
This is the non-official version of CyanogenMod 11, which is still in development. The version could still contain bugs. Its installation and usage are therefore recommended for advanced users only.

What you will need

• Charge your tablet to at least 80%
• Check to make sure you have the correct build number (to do this go to your Settings and then About Tablet).
• The installation could cause a loss of data, so make sure you backup everything beforehand.

Installation

If your tablet is already rooted and equipped with a custom ROM, you can go directly to the next section on installing CM 11. Otherwise, perform the following steps:
1. Identify the correct build for your device and install the corresponding file. Copy the CM 11 / Android 4.4 file as well as the Google application to the root directory of your tablet (without putting them in a folder).
2. Decompress and install Odin on your computer.
3. Launch Odin on your PC and turn off your Galaxy Tab 2.
4. Start your tablet in download mode (hold the power, volume down and home buttons for about ten seconds).
5. Plug your tablet into your PC, Odin should recognize it and display the words ID:COM in the top left corner on a yellow background.
6. Click on PDA and look for the CWM file that corresponds to the build number of your phone, and then check the ‘auto reboot’ box. Do not touch anything else!
7. Restart your tablet in recovery mode (power, volume up and home) and then go to the next part of the tutorial.

Install Android 4.4.2 KitKat / CyanogenMod 11

You are now in recovery mode, if you chose a different custom recovery to CWM (like TWRP), the names of the menu items might be different, but you'll figure it out.
1. Choose backup and restore and then select backup.
2. Once the backup is complete, choose wipe data/ factory reset.
3. Select advanced and then wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache.
4. Choose install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from internal storage.
5. Go to the file with the CyanogenMod 11 / Android 4.4 ROM and validate. Validate yet another time with yes.
6. Do the exact same thing with the Gapps file.
7. Return to the main menu and choose reboot now.
After a few minutes, your tablet will start again with Android 4.4 KitKat, congrats!
